What can we offer your child?

Our aim is to create a happy, safe and caring environment for all our children.

Our qualified staff present a theme each half term. During each three hour session, the children carry out a range of planned activities, many of which reflect the chosen theme.

There is always time allocated for the children to make their own choice of activity, and time for a drink and a snack. We also spend some time outside (weather permitting) and take the children on outings to local places of interest.

Parents and carers are welcome to help during the sessions but there is no duty rota. Helping gives parents and carers the opportunity to take an active part in the group, to see what happens in a session, and then share the experience with their child. It also gives children a valuable opportunity to see their own parents and carers in a new role.

The funding available for children in what is known as the 'foundation stage'. This covers the time from when they are three to the end of the reception year - the end of the school year in which they become five. Wherever children attend in the foundation stage (pre-school, nursery, reception class, etc) staff who work with them will use the Early Learning Goals which focus on what the children neeed to learn at their own individual stages of development.

At pre-school, it is important that children can play and learn at the same time in a secure and happy environment. Our sessions are planned so that the six broad areas of learning are covered using both structured play and times of free choice. Staff plan activities which will very gradually extend the development of individual children in all areas, preparing them for when they go on to attend school.
